THE GREATEST CULT MOVIES OF ALL-TIME ARE BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN IN 35 MM!

"Filled with enough raucous energy to ignite a fireworks display, MAD MAX is truly a benchmark in Australian cinema ... one of the best action-exploitation films ever committed to celluloid." - URBAN CINEFILE

This ass-kicking Aussie action flick from first-time director George Miller not only jump-started the hugely popular Mad Max trilogy (including The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome) and made Mel Gibson an international superstar, it also singlehandedly defined the "post-apocalyptic action" genre of the '80s and turned bloody highway mayhem into cinematic poetry.
In the oil-dependent, crime ravaged near future (represented here by the sun-blasted Australian landscape), a savage motorcycle gang rules the road. Terrorizing innocent civilians while tearing up the streets, the ruthless gang laughs in the face of a police force hell-bent on stopping them. But they underestimate one officer: Max Rockatansky (Gibson). And when the bikers brutalize Max's best friend, wife and child, they send him into a mad frenzy that leaves him with only one thing left in the world to live for ... revenge!
Displaying a truly nihilistic punk spirit (or as some called it, "fascist"), and featuring awe-inspiring stunts and metal-bending automotive carnage, MAD MAX is a tough, gritty and electrifying action extravaganza that may make you think twice before setting out on your next road trip.

*Listen up, Mate. This is the original Australian version of MAD MAX, not the "American English"-dubbed version that played in U.S. theaters. Crikey!*

(George Miller, 1979, Australia, 93 mins., rated R)
