Prepare yourself for this notoriously awful 1958 oddity, the weirdest and trashiest entry in the bizarrely popular “jungle women” film genre of the late 1950s. Welcome to the forgotten tropical paradise of Wongo, where a tribe of beautiful and primitive women (made to look like 1950s pin-up models, complete with teased hair and full-on Max Factor make-up), worship the Alligator God and struggle to co-exist with their male counterparts, the very unattractive and unappealing men of Wongo.
However, when word gets out that the other side of the island is inhabited by a tribe of men that civilized society would refer to as “hot beefcake,” the wild women of Wongo decide to journey to the tribe of “men in skimpy loincloths” and grab themselves some potential man meat. But danger lurks in the form of the dreaded “Ape Men,” who threaten to put the brakes on the Wongo women’s dating plans.
Packed full of ludicrous female-on-female fighting, rubber alligators, skimpy costumes, crazed fertility rites, wooden acting and a very annoying “comic-relief” parrot, WILD WOMEN OF WONGO is a serious contender for one of the absolute worst films of all time. Enjoy!
