Join us for this very special premiere screening of the STORIES THAT SOAR documentary. This film brings to the screen the magical experiences of children from the Pascua Yaqui Reservation who witness their stories turned into theatric performances by professional actors. Stories That Soar is a professionally acted, theatrical troupe whose mini-plays are based on the stories written by local children. The process begins with the Magic Box, which is hungry for stories. Elementary school children are invited to “feed” their original words and ideas to the Magic Box. Once it is full, the actors take the box and choose 20-30 of the children’s stories and turn them into short plays. At the performance the young authors see their stories soar off the page and onto the stage.

This new documentary reveals the excitement and drama behind the Stories That Soar experience at Anna Lawrence School on the Pascua-Yaqui Reservation by showing how the stories develop from the moment the Magic Box is built, through the story writing, to script development, rehearsal and the final performance in front of the children and their family. This unique project, which helps the children and families involved connect to their culture through the power of art and imagination, offers inspiration to anyone who has ever dreamed of telling their own story and watching it soar.
