AN EDIE SEDGWICK DOUBLE FEATURE!
POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL / 1965, 66 mins., color and B&W, sound
Organized as a day in the life of Edie Sedgwick, perhaps the most celebrated of the Warhol Superstars, this semi-documentary takes portraiture to a new level as Warhol’s out-of-focus cinematography is set to the rocking strains of the Everly Brothers. We follow Edie as she wakes up, orders up coffee and juice, smokes and exercises, talks on the telephone, and explains how she ran through a sizeable inheritance in just six months. Movie star glamorous in her leopard-spotted coat and false eyelashes, yet strangely vulnerable in her loneliness, the film perfectly captures Warhol's fascination with self-created celebrity.
KITCHEN / 1965, 66 mins., B&W, sound
Written by NYC's Playhouse of the Ridiculous founder and frequent Warhol collaborator Ronald Tavel, KITCHEN is an absurd heterosexual satire filmed in a real kitchen, with Edie Sedgwick and Roger Trudeau playing an unhappy couple, Jo and Mikie. The "action" is interrupted by various chaotic activities: the running of a blender which drowns out the dialogue, the continual sneezing of Sedgwick and her co-stars, a bustling houseboy played by Rene Ricard, and photographer David McCabe, who repeatedly strides onto the set to take photos of the actors.
Don't miss the Warhol exhibit "Andy Warhol Portfolios: Life & Legends" at the Tucson Museum of Art, February 27, 2010 - July 3, 2010. Visit http://www.tucsonmuseumofart.org/ for more information.
