“NYT CRITICS PICK! A scorching family drama … beautifully acted.” – Stephen Holden, New York Times

“A human-size tragedy … evoking a contemporary fable but unfolding like a thriller.” – Eric Hynes, Time Out New York

“A classy, full-bodied family drama … the film’s pleasures are numerous. Niels Arestrup is ideally cast as the coldhearted, overly pragmatic owner of Saint-Emilion winery.” – Boyd van Hoeij, Variety

Paul (Niels Arestrup, A Prophet, War Horse) is the passionate, demanding proprietor of his prestigious family wine estate. But he has no faith in his son, Martin (Lorànt Deutsch, Welcome to the Roses), who works at the vineyard. Paul dreams of a harder-working, successful son - a dream that one day seemingly materializes when he meets Philippe (Nicolas Bridet, Regular Lovers), the son of his dying estate manager (Patrick Chesnais, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly). Can Paul turn against his own blood and tranform Philippe into the rightful heir of his family estate? Writer/director Gilles Legrand’s increasingly gripping narrative ripens into Shakespearean levels of family intrigue and betrayal, driven by a titanic performance by Arestrup as the stormy patriarch, while the film’s keen observations on the intricacies of the wine-growing business serve as a thoroughly engrossing compliment to the dramatic fireworks. Shot on location in the French region of Saint-Émilion at the Château Clos Fourtet, You Will Be My Son is a visually stunning, deeply moving exploration of the meaning of work, love and family. (Dir. by Gilles Legrand, 2013, France, in French with subtitles, 102 mins., Rated R, Cohen Media Group) Digital
