“This complex, compassionate film finds both wicked humor and, less expectedly, transcendent hope in America’s gaudy fixation with Christmas spirit.” – Guy Lodge, Variety

White Reindeer eagerly pokes the mythology surrounding the holiday season narrative to find something hauntingly beautiful lurking beneath it.” – Erik Kohn, Indiewire

“This is the least festive Christmas movie since Bad Santa, dissecting the absurd belief that the holiday season can somehow magically cure all ills.” – Mike D’Angelo, Onion AV Club

The holidays prove to be a bit less festive than usual in the wickedly funny dark comedy White Reindeer. Christmastime is looking swell for pretty, unassuming real-estate-agent Suzanne Barrington (Anna Margaret Hollyman, Somebody Up There Likes Me): she just sold a house to a nice swinger couple; her weatherman husband Jeff scored a sweet new job; and her favorite holiday is quickly approaching. After a sudden tragedy takes Jeff away, Suzanne is left lost and lonely. Even worse, a friend of his confesses a secret: there's another woman. Her name's Fantasia and she works as a stripper at the "Girl Club." In their grief, the two women form an awkward but meaningful friendship. Pushing away the ghosts of Christmas present, Suzanne falls into Fantasia's world of dance parties, shoplifting and substance abuse, heartily embracing the seedier side of the holidays and the perversions of a Christmas in suburbia. But maybe that's not what Suzanne's looking for either... (Dir. by Zach Clark, 2013, USA, 82 mins., Not Rated, IFC Films) Digital
