Late Night Cult Classics at The Loft Cinema! The greatest cult movies of all-time are back on the big screen!
“The Great Muppet Caper holds up spectacularly well as a clever parody of heist films and musicals … the jokes are sharp with a great meta-awareness and some excellent tongue-in-cheek human cameos. And of course, it’s got The Muppets, so what’s not to like?” – Matt Grant, Pop Matters
The Muppets’ second big screen adventure takes the whole gang to jolly old England, where they find big fun and big trouble in a diabolical jewel heist caper. More complex and larger-scaled than the original Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper features Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear and The Great Gonzo as journalists who travel to London to investigate the theft of a giant gem known as the Baseball Diamond. It seems that the real criminals managed to escape and frame Miss Piggy as the thief, so our three not-so-confident heroes set out on a mission to solve the mystery, clear Piggy’s name and catch the bad guys who stole the gem from high society fashion maven Lady Holiday (Diana Rigg, The Avengers). And naturally, Kermit falls head over flippers in love with the sassy would-be-model Miss Piggy, which only complicates things further. Directed by Muppets creator Jim Henson, The Great Muppet Caper features sharply sophisticated jokes alongside the typically goofy Muppets humor, as well as a couple of spectacular musical numbers, thrilling action and the unforgettable sight of Miss Piggy on a motorcycle. Also starring Charles Grodin and Monty Python’s John Cleese. (Dir. by Jim Henson, 1981, USA, 95 mins., Rated G) Digital
