Mud emerges as a thing of bruised beauty. There's magic in it.” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“A newly-minted American classic … a film of striking originality. Mud invites us in with open arms and treats us to a terrific tale.” – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

From acclaimed director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) comes the intense, emotionally compelling drama Mud, the story of two boys - Ellis and his friend Neckbone - who find a fugitive named Mud (Matthew McConaughey) hiding out on an island in the Mississippi River. Mud describes fantastic scenarios - he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon), who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn't long until Mud's visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow. Filled with sweltering rural Southern atmosphere, gripping storytelling and haunting lyricism, Mud is a southern-fried coming-of-age tale that works as a 21st century take on Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Also starring Sam Shepard and Michael Shannon. (Dir. by Jeff Nichols, 2012, USA, 130 mins., Rated PG-13, Roadside Attractions) 35mm
