Co-presented by Zia Records!
Celebrate the 70th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s birth with a very special theatrical presentation of his legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969, brought to the screen in high definition and surround sound!
In Hendrix 70: Live at Woodstock, the legendary guitarist's unforgettable 1969 Woodstock concert is brought to the big screen for the very first time. The concert will be presented uninterrupted in its original performance sequence, newly restored in high definition and featuring a new 5.1 surround sound theatrical mix.
This special edition theatrical presentation has been carefully reassembled from the extensive archive of original 16mm film footage helmed by Academy Award-winning director Michael Wadleigh and his hand-picked team of skilled camera operators and support personnel, under the auspices of Experience Hendrix, LLC, the Hendrix family-owned company. What they captured was a Jimi Hendrix performance unlike any other. Selected to close the massive three day Woodstock festival (with his closing set being pushed from Sunday night to Monday morning due to weather issues), Jimi premiered a new band at the concert (introduced to the crowd as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Hendrix quickly corrects that to Gypsy Sun and Rainbows), as well as a new, more jam-oriented sound. His extraordinary performance on that August morning included blazing, unforgettable renditions of such signature Hendrix tunes as “Voodoo Child”, “Fire", “Purple Haze” and “Foxy Lady” as well as his dramatic, feedback-drenched interpretation of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Raw, intense and utterly fearless, Hendrix’s Woodstock performance stands as one of the finest moments in rock music history.
Jimi’s fascinating road to the Woodstock festival is revealed by way of never before seen footage and interviews with his band members such as Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, engineer Eddie Kramer and Woodstock’s promoter Michael Lang. Directed by Grammy Award-winner Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology), the new documentary, which precedes the performance footage, reveals the struggle to stage the legendary festival and secure Hendrix as its headline artist.
