Groundhog Day is Saturday, Feb. 2nd, and we’re celebrating all week long with this hilarious comedy classic … if you see Bill Murray’s face pop up on our screen this week, it means you’re in for a good time at the movies!
“A hilarious and unexpectedly profound comedy.” – Scott Tobias, Onion AV Club
Bill Murray is at his wisecracking best in this high concept romantic comedy (a somewhat twisted variation of Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life) about a self-absorbed TV weatherman caught in a personal time warp on the worst day of his life. Teamed with a relentlessly cheerful producer (Andie MacDowell) and a blissfully clueless cameraman (the great Chris Elliott), weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities. But on his way out of town, Phil is caught in a giant blizzard, which he failed to predict, and finds himself stuck in small-town hell. Just when things couldn't get worse, they get worse; Phil wakes the next morning in a bizarre time warp in which it's Groundhog Day all over again...and again...and again. No matter what he does, he's stuck in February 2, 1992; neither imprisonment nor attempted suicide nor kidnapping the groundhog can get him out of the loop. But the more Phil relives the same day, the more he's forced to look at other people's lives, and something very unusual happens: he starts to become a better person. Who would have guessed?
