“An adventure in pure imagination that plays to the smart kid in all of us … a movie that deserves to be called ‘groundbreaking.’” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
Based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel, Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox is a hilarious and heartwarming animated adventure about a clever, quick and exceptionally well-dressed fox with a hunger for adventure. A compulsive chicken thief turned newspaper reporter, Mr. Fox settles down with his family in a new foxhole in a beautiful tree - directly adjacent to three enormous poultry farms owned by three ferociously vicious farmers: Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. Although he’s been happily domesticated, Mr. Fox still feels the itch for adventure and simply cannot resist temptation, planning one final, glorious, go-for-broke chicken raid on his neighbor’s farm, a move that ultimately endangers not only his family but the entire animal community as well. Anderson’s fun, witty and often moving adaptation of Dahl’s beloved novel (co-written with filmmaker Noah Baumbach) is a meticulous work of old-school stop-motion animation played out against charming storybook settings (not to mention a pitch-perfect use of the music of Burl Ives), creating that all-too-rare concoction: a children’s movie for all. Featuring an all-star vocal cast including George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon and Bill Murray. (Dir. by Wes Anderson, 2009, USA, 87 mins., Rated PG) Digital
