“We did not lose just a very good actor. We may have lost the best one we had.” – The New York Times’ AO Scott on Philip Seymour Hoffman.

In Capote, Philip Seymour Hoffman delivers a mesmerizing and unforgettable performance as famed author Truman Capote during the writing of his classic “non-fiction novel” In Cold Blood. In November, 1959, the shocking murder of the Clutter family in a small Kansas town captures the imagination of Truman Capote (Hoffman, winner of the 2006 Best Actor Academy Award), famed author of Breakfast at Tiffany's. With his childhood friend Harper Lee (Catherine Keener), writer of the soon-to-be published To Kill a Mockingbird, in tow, Capote sets out to investigate, and although his flamboyant appearance and style initially arouses hostility, he slowly wins the trust of the locals, including Alvin Dewey (Chris Cooper) of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote eventually visits the captured killers Perry Smith and Dick Hickock in jail and begins work on In Cold Blood. But when he forms an ambiguous bond with the killers and their execution date nears, the writing of In Cold Blood, a book that will change the course of American literature, takes a drastic toll on Capote, changing him in ways he never imagined. (Dir. by Bennett Miller, 2005, USA, 114 mins., Rated R) 35mm
